Outreach and follow-ups

Visit alerts

Know when a business opens the site you built them, and use it to time your follow-ups. No cookies, and the data stays in your own database.

When a business opens the site you sent them, you get an alert while they're still looking: "Acme Bakery (Leeds) just opened the site you built them. Visit 2." The visit number tells you whether it's a first look or a return. Alerts for one business are capped at three a day, so a few reloads don't flood you.

Where you see it

Every new site Klaudius builds for a business counts its visits in your own database. Each proposed follow-up shows when that business last opened its site, and anyone who has looked since your last message comes first. The Seen column in Pipeline shows the same for every business (Not yet if they haven't opened it). Use visits to decide when to follow up; the messages never mention them. See Daily follow-ups.

If your notifications go to Telegram, visit alerts reach you even while your computer is off. See Notifications.

Your own visits don't count

Nothing counts until the first message to that business has gone out, so checking a site before you send it sets nothing off. Visits from the internet connection Klaudius builds sites on are recognised as yours. Visits in the first couple of minutes after a message goes out are ignored too, since that's usually an email security scanner checking the link.

If an alert still turns out to be you, press That was me on the alert or on the business in Pipeline, or tell Klaudius. That visit stops counting, and so do visits from that connection for the next week. You can also ask Klaudius to always ignore this computer's internet connection, and to list or remove the connections it ignores.

What it records

The counter uses no cookies and stores nothing on the visitor's device. For each visit it keeps which pages were viewed, for how long and how far down, the browser, the page that linked there if any, and a shortened form of the visitor's internet address, never the full one. All of it stays in your own database.

Each site with the counter says so in one short footer line, in the site's language ("This site counts visits without cookies."). Once a client has bought, their visits no longer alert you, and the go-live SEO step removes the counter and that line. See Take a client's site live.

Switching it on or off

Visit alerts are on by default. Only sites built while they're on count visits. To stop counting, switch off Visit alerts in Settings, or ask Klaudius to turn visit tracking off.

Ask Klaudius

  • Which businesses opened their site this week
  • That visit to Acme Bakery was me
  • Always ignore this computer's internet connection
